How many times have we heard the adage in real estate that it’s “Location, Location, Location”? Well, MCI WorldCom, one of the big boys on the block, agrees. When MCI WorldCom had a need for a special switching facility in Washington, D.C. with the right address, and the right power and telecommunication requirements, they found an existing building on the site; a hard start in some cases. However there was just one catch: the building MCI WorldCom selected was built circa 1908. No as-built drawings and no modern fire protection or exits were in place. Converting a 250,000 square foot, ninety-year-old building into a state-of-the art, 21st century, leading edge telecommunication marvel was a significant and rewarding task for Stephens Architectural Associates!
