The Bridgeway Community Church is a special example of the adoptive reuse of an older building. Originally built for the Head Sportswear firm almost 40 years ago, this building was selected by Bridgeway as their first building after many years of building their spiritual community in a local community college.
The previous layout of the building included a large office component that could be easily changed and adapted to the churches office and classroom requirements.
While the old warehouse featured the clear height and square footage for the auditorium seating requirements, the original 8 steel columns were clearly in the way. Budget restriction only allowed the 4 most line of sight restricting columns to be removed.
Portions of the existing concrete floor was removed to create the lower sloped seating area. After exploring numerous systems to construct the upper bowl a metal stud system was able to meet the budget.
